Aches, Aging & Arthritis in Our Animals

As the winter weather kicks in and we find it harder to get out of bed, our senior pets often struggle as well. Once our beloved pets hit 8 years of age, they are then considered a senior citizen and should be monitored for signs of arthritis which may include the following:

  • Stiffness in the legs – especially in the mornings
  • Excessively licking and/or chewing at their joints
  • Cats not grooming themselves properly
  • Limping or falling behind on walks
  • Hesitant to walk, run, jump or play
  • Avoids certain joints being touched or
    cries in pain
  • Behavioural changes, short-tempered or stubbornness

Treatment options vary depending on what signs have been noted and what the best option for your pet is. If you notice one or more of these changes, we recommend arranging a consultation with one of our Vets so that we can develop a treatment plan to help keep your pet comfortable and happy through these cold winter months.
